Oswestry stepped up their Cheshire South title challenge with a 36-20 bonus point win at Isle of Man side Ramsey to stay on the heels of leaders Manchester Medics.

The Eagles made light of the journey on a perfect Ramsey pitch in bright and cold conditions.

Fin Grogan kicked a penalty to the corner and quick ball from the set play saw Gaz Hughes go over, Grogan converting. He added a penalty, before Ramsey hit back to level.

But Hamish Fuller's deft off-load to Grogan enabled him to put Zac Baldwin through, Grogan converting for 17-10.

And quick handling from the Ramsey kick-off brought a splendid team try finished off by Baldwin, Grogan converting for a 24-10 half-time lead.

Ramsey pegged the gap with a penalty, but Owen Youens sparked another fine team move which ended with a try for Andy Merrett.

A converted try kept Ramsey in it, but Hughes then caught akick and ran in from halfway, Grogan converting.

Newport suffered an away day disaster with a 55-0 National Three Midlands loss at Longton.

They were defending stoutly in the first-half, down only 7-0 with half-time not far away when poor tackling allowed winger Jack Newton-Taylor to scamper in for a brace of tries and a 19-0 lead at the break.

With the wind at their backs in the second period, Newport promptly coughed up the ball from kick-off and conceded the fourth and bonus point try to end the game as a contest.

A good crowd braved biting winds to see Bridgnorth beat Silhillians 34-21 at home in Midlands One West.

In a penalty-strewn game Darren Brick, Ed John and Alex Grainger scored first-half tries as their side led 20-9 at the turn.

John then off-loaded to Matt Farrington who burst through to seal the game at 27-16. Silhillians reduced the deficit, but Brick scored a second try.

Shrewsbury were unable to repeat last week's first victory of the season, going down 29-15 at Camp Hill in Midlands Two West North.

Ludlow emerged triumphant at Bloxwich in Midlands Three West North, edging out the home team 38-32 while Cleobury Mortimer won a tight derby at Clee Hill 10-7.

Telford Hornets, buoyant from the previous week's win against Midlands Four West North leaders Uttoxeter, carried on the good work with a 36-27 win at Yardley and District.

Tries from Stefan Hildred and Henry Sankey put them 12-8 up at the break.

In the second-half. Jack Kosbayen stretched out a long arm to score before being put into touch and Peter Jones also crossed for the Hornets.

With penalties for Hildred, Telford were well clear before Yardley's late converted try.

In the same division, Church Stretton were seconds away from pulling off a sensational comeback at new league leaders Barton-Under-Needwood.

They fell just short as they conceded a last-gasp try to lose 25-19. The Samurai were 18-0 down with a quarter of an hour left.

They then but led through three fine tries from Henry Beer, Tom Ward – bursting through several tackles before outpacing the full-back – and Tom Price. But the late score sunk them.

In the same division, Bishops Castle & Onny Valley lost 22-7 at home to Bromyard, while Market Drayton went down 30-14 at Aston Old Edwardians.
