Shopshire's Supersonic Sam seeks backing

An up-and-coming motorcycling star from Shropshire is hoping local businesses can get behind his dream of becoming a British champion.

Sam Hornsey, from Bucknell near Ludlow, is currently making headlines following his performances in British Supersport over the past four seasons.

The 20-year-old has been taking part in the race series – which is the biking equivalent of Formula3 – since he was 17 and has progressed in every season.

Next year, the former Ludlow CofE School pupil has a genuine shot at the title as he looks to eventually become a full-time racer and compete in the Superbike World Championships.

But to do so he needs sponsorship and is offering advertising space on his overalls and his bike in a bid to generate funding.

"Up and coming riders have to pay their way to take part so I'm hoping to sell advertising space in a bid to get the finances that will allow me to compete," he said.

"It's not a cheap sport to be involved in. I've progressed every season and I believe I now have a real chance of winning the title or, at the very least, coming in the top five.

"It's a great time for sponsors to get involved because the profile of British Supersport has never been higher.

"It now has coverage on British Eurosport and ITV4 so it's reaching an audience of 500,000 homes each race day."

Hornsey's impressive displays have caught the eyes of teams in the Superbike World Championships and he was given a 'wild card' for the British round of the series.

And 'Supersonic Sam' didn't let himself down, qualifying in 10th place and only just missing out on his first World Championship points after finishing 16th.

"I get offered the chance to compete in the Superbike World Championships every time it is in Britain and it's great for my exposure," he said.

"The dream is to one day be going around the world competing in that series but first I want to win British Supersport.

"If anyone can help me do that it would be amazing. I really want the people of Shropshire to support me."
