The 42-year-old former Welsh and British Lions back row forward returned home satisfied after landing some good rainbows, including a new personal best of 6lb.

The lakes provided an excellent week of sport, with 169 anglers recording an average of just over six fish per rod and no less than 22 double figure fish were landed, 18 of which were returned.

Lots of various methods worked, with fish, especially the browns, still taking dries but cats and daddies, fished just sub-surface, proved most successful.

The best brown of the week, a superb13lb 1oz, went to Chris Austin of North Staffs.

Gordon Hollinger banked a rainbow of 13lbs, Andy Simpson had one of 12lbs 9ozs while Paul Wilson recorded a brace of 11lbs 7ozs and 9lbs 8ozs.

Andrew Wood had a new PB rainbow of 11lbs, David Gaynor had a one of 10lbs 3ozs and John Ruscoe one of 10lbs 2ozs.

Younger anglers have also been having their share of the action, including Anthony Simpson who landed a 3lb plus rainbow.

The next stocking will take place on Monday 22 and again on the 27, which aside from the usual stockies, will include 100 fish over 6lb.

Ellerdine will only be closed on Christmas Day over the holiday period.
