Some 11 fights took place at the Sports & Social Club in the Telford district of Donnington, with a number of home fighters involved on Saturday.

The action began with a bout away from the tournament involving Donnington Boxing Club's Bradley Thompson, competing in a 31kg contest.

He took on Jagbir Mann, from Amphion BC in Darlaston, and was declared the victor unanimously on points through slicker work at close quarters.

The first competitive bout came in the 'minors,' for children born in 2002, where Donnington's Braden Davies went toe-to-toe with Joe Doyle at 32.5kg.

Davies was pegged back in the first round as Droitwich's Doyle went hell for leather, but he appeared to have almost punched himself out by the second.

In came Davies to wear him down at close quarters as he bashed away at the body, winning the first of the next two rounds to take the decision by majority.

A close-run bout saw Walsall Wood's Marshall Barnett defeat Wednesbury's Kyle Shirley by split decision at 37kg, although it could have gone either way.

Donnington's Ayan Mahmood gained revenge on nemesis Brandon Smith, from Wednesbury, with fast hands and a hit-and-move style scoring for success.

The judges went with the Shropshire boxer unanimously, after his game-plan had worked to perfection and made him tough to pin down over the distance.

But there was disappointment at 50kg for Donnington's Amir Abbas, who lost unanimously at 50kg to Walsall Wood's Jamie Breeze, brother of national champion Daniel.

Breeze boxed clever to sail through the three rounds, catching Abbas with the cleaner shots as he bombed forward looking to force his way into the fight.

There were minors byes for Mann at 31kg and Carlos Stewart and Alan Sutherland, both of Donnington, at 40kg and 52kg respectively.

Class A, for boxers born in 2000, was opened by Pleck's Lewis Morris and his unanimous victory over a strong opponent in Clarence Hall, from Droitwich, at 37kg.

Donnington's Kimmy Zaman didn't recover from early pressure at 46kg against Wodensborough's Aiden Foster, who was declared the victor unanimously.

There were Class A byes for Thompson at 29.5kg and Priory Park's James Mongan and Wolverhampton's Ryan Baddiel at 34kg and 48kg respectively.

In Class B, for fighters born in 2001, Donnington's Oliver Lear lost his 48kg battle against Jay Snow, from the boxing academy of former British champion Wayne Elcock.

Awkward southpaw Snow proved too slippery early on for Lear, who did manage to battle back and make the contest competitive before losing by majority.

Droitwich's George Butler progressed at the expense of Walsall Wood's Hamza Hamed unanimously at 52kg, while the 54kg match ended by third round stoppage.

Connor Hinks, from Merridale BC in Wolverhampton, was waved off hurt under body shots from Priory Park's Jerry Mongan, a former national semi-finalist in the competition.

Karel Adams, an imposing Czech-born fighter from Pleck, defeated Priory Park's Brad Willetts unanimously at 65kg and dwarfed his adversary at the weight.

There were Class B byes for Wellington Boxing Academy's Hamza Hussain, Donnington's John Price and Priory Park's Blake Clarke at 43kg, 50kg and 57kg respectively.
