Chief executive Brian Caldwell believes costs at Shrewsbury Town are attractive

Chief executive Brian Caldwell believes Shrewsbury Town's prices are attractive to supporters after the BBC revealed their latest Price of Football survey.

Town were rated mid-table in League One for their ticket prices, with 12 clubs offering a cheaper season ticket than the Montgomery Waters Meadow admission.

The club's most popular season ticket, at £295, comes in at almost the average cost for League One clubs, at £296.54.

"I think on the whole we have actually come out OK," Caldwell told Shrewsburytown.com

"A lot tends to be about how Premier League clubs charge.

"I think when you look at our level, I would say we have streamlined a lot of our pricing. We are attractive with how we set up our fan card and the early bird season ticket being as cheap as they are. I do think we are good value for money."

Town have recently introduced a fan card, offering better value for supporters who take in a number of home games in a season but not enough to warrant buying a season ticket.

Town also let under-eights in for free at Montgomery Waters Meadow and discount for youngsters under the age of 22.

He added: "Under-eights are free. Nine to 11-year-olds works out at £1.95 a game or something – what can you get for £2 nowadays?

"Then you look at the next bracket, we changed that last year to make it 12-18 so 18-year-olds were paying the same price (as younger fans).

"Let's face it, most 12-16 year olds are getting their parents to pay so if we can keep it the same it takes away excuses of not coming.

"It's hard enough to get teenagers to come for football, there are so many attractions out there.

"When I look at our prices and compare it to the cinema – when you turn 15 you pay the adult price.

"We've made the pricing cheaper and you become an adult at 22, which is more than fair."
