Town are top of the pile after 14 games – picking up 10 wins and four draws.

Data supplied from Oddschecker – a betting odds comparison website – show Hurst’s side, since the start of the week, have been the most backed to be crowned champions.

They have accumulated 36.1 per cent of market bets while Wigan Athletic have taken up 21.8 per cent.

Salop’s best odds are 10/1, but were available at 28/1 this time last month.

They were also the most backed side in September, with 20.3 per cent of market bets being placed on them.

On whether more people are taking notice of them now, Hurst said: “I think people in football will certainly have a look.

“I do the same – scroll through leagues and see where teams are.

“I’m happy to continue to go under the radar, people thinking we have been extremely lucky and don’t have any good players.

“Of course, there is more to it than that.

“We’re happy to try and keep getting results until, finally, everybody would have to take notice.”

Town host Fleetwood Town tomorrow looking to extend their unbeaten run to 15 games.

The Cod Army have Devante Cole, son of Andy, in good form and Hurst is way of their attacking players.

“They have got three big centre-halves for set-plays and Connor McAleny is back,” he said.

“I was surprised, no disrespect to Fleetwood, that he signed there – he could have signed for a Championship club. Everyone speaks about what a good player he is.

“If he plays, whether from the start or off the bench, he adds to that threat. We will have to be on our toes.”

Hurst added: “Hopefully it will be a big crowd. We want as many as possible to come and cheer on the lads.”
