The New Saints stay focused as they close in on title

Carl Darlington believes The New Saints can take nothing for granted despite the stats appearing to be stacked in their favour as they chase a third successive Welsh Premier crown.

The defending champions are sitting pretty at the top of the league with a three-point gap on their only realistic challengers, Airbus UK, after seeing off Carmarthen Town 4-0 last Saturday.

They also have a game in hand to further strengthen their position and, with a vastly superior goal difference, it would mean the Saints having to drop seven points from their remaining seven games to give the Wingmakers any hope of snatching the title.

TNS now head to Newtown tomorrow, wary that the Robins have proved troublesome opponents in the past. Their last defeat was at Latham Park back on Boxing Day when being edged out 1-0, since which time the leaders have gone nine games without defeat in the league.

"We're taking one game at a time and staying focused," said head coach Darlington. "To lose the title we have to lose two games, and draw one. We have only lost two all season so the stats are in our favour, but we won't be taking anything for granted.

"Newtown will be a tough game for us.

"We lost there over Christmas, but

we are relishing the game, it's a local derby and it's one we're looking to win to move that bit closer to the title."

Missing will be midfielder Sam Finley who starts a three match ban.
