AFC Telford United will travel to Welsh side Newtown AFC next month as part of their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Blue Square Premier season.

The Bucks’ assistant manager Mike Davies has confirmed his side will visit Latham Park on July 31 for a pre-season friendly (7.30pm).

The Robins finished bottom of the Welsh Premier League at the end of the season just gone.

But Davies said: “They have got a fantastic set-up and they have made some good signings. They will be a difficult test and I think it will be a good fixture for us going into the new season.”

The game will form part of a six-match pre-season fixture list which will also include home tussles with Walsall on July 24, Chesterfield on July 28, Wolves on August 3 and Birmingham on August 7.

The Bucks will also travel to Market Drayton Town in the Shropshire Senior Cup on July 14 with the next round expected to be played on July 21 should they win.

Davies also reiterated that the club is unlikely to add any new signings to their ranks within the next week.

But he insisted they had been working hard behind the scenes to boost their ranks and further developments were expected in the near future.
