Reflective Shane Killock insists it was the right time for him to leave AFC Telford United after three seasons at the New Bucks Head.
The former captain was one of a number of players released last week as boss Andy Sinton overhauls the squad for next season.
But Killock insists he has no regrets.
“It’s not been a great season from a personal perspective,” said the 23-year-old defender. “So I think it was probably the right time for me to leave.
“I was at the club for three seasons and have some great memories, so I just want to say thank you and wish everyone at Telford all the best for the future.”
The former Huddersfield Town and Oxford United defender was committing to a five-hour round trip up to five times each week last season.
Killock admits the number of hours he spent travelling took its toll.
“The manager was looking for us to do at least three days of training a week,” Killock said. “And he’s right, at Conference level you need that extra day.
“But with me having to travel down from Yorkshire every day, a journey that can take up to two-and-a-half hours with traffic on the M6, it was beginning to get really hard.”
