Long-serving defender Stuart Whitehead has declared himself “gutted” after leaving AFC Telford United – but insists he could one day return as a coach.

The 35-year-old centre-back has joined Blue Square Bet North side Worcester City, while midfielder Jon Adams has gone on loan to Evo-Stik Southern League side Leamington.

Whitehead admits the time was probably right to move on, praising boss Andy Sinton for the handling of the situation.

“He’s done what he thought was best for me and I can’t thank him enough,” said Whitehead, who played for the old Telford United.

“It’s absolutely gutting and it’s taken me a little time to get used to the idea because this club has been part of my life for such a long time.

“There are no hard feelings, only happy memories.

“You never know, I might be back one day in a coaching capacity because I’ve got a good relationship with the gaffer and I’m sure he’ll be there a long time.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Adams has vowed to make the most of his loan spell and return ready to fight for his place at the New Bucks Head.
