Andy Sinton is sensing FA Trophy glory run
Friday 13th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Boss Andy Sinton has told AFC Telford United to go out and prove their FA Trophy credentials tomorrow, insisting: “There’s no reason why we can’t win it.”
The Bucks make a second round trip to Cambridge United, knowing they are up against one of the biggest sides left in the competition.
But Sinton is urging his team to believe in themselves and eliminate one of the favourites for ultimate Wembley glory.
“I think it’s very likely that someone from the Conference is going to win the Trophy so why can’t it be us?” he said.
“Somewhere along the line you are going to have to beat one of the better sides if you are going to go far.
“We’ll go there full of confidence and have a real go – it doesn’t have to be settled tomorrow, we could go to a replay on Tuesday, but we’d ideally like it settled at the first attempt.”
The trip means a repeat of the Bucks’ first game in the Blue Square Bet Premier, an unlucky 1-0 defeat at the Abbey Stadium in August.
And Sinton is also relishing the chance of another return to the club where his own playing career began.
“It only seems like a week ago that we started out in this league down there,” he said.
“We acquitted ourselves really well and can take heart from that performance.
“I’m looking forward to going back for personal reasons and it should be a good game.”
New signing Chris Blackburn is cup-tied, having played for Stockport County in the first round.
Left-back Ryan Valentine is a doubt with the groin injury he suffered tduring the 3-1 win over Kettering last week. Should he miss out then Sean Newton could be in line for a recall.
