More surprises on the way at AFC Telford United
Wednesday 11th January 2012, 10:59AM GMT.
Boss Andy Sinton has warned AFC Telford United supporters to be prepared for “one or two surprises” as he continues to thin his squad.
Sinton brought in three new faces last week but let more than half a dozen go – with club record goalscorer Andy Brown’s loan switch to Nuneaton the biggest shock.
And more established faces could yet be heading for the exit as the Telford chief juggles his budget.
“I have had an enquiry about one player and I am considering that,” Sinton revealed.
“There might be two or three who, in an ideal world, I wouldn’t want to go out on loan. But I know where we are and what we have to do.
“If that means there are one or two surprises then so be it – it’s not a personal thing and I just have to do what I think is best for the football club.”
Sinton also revealed that he had not given up on making further additions during the January transfer window, having already signed defender Chris Blackburn and brought in striker Kyle Perry and forward Marlon Jackson on loan.
“I’m looking to identify players in areas where a lot of people might say we’re doing okay,” said Sinton.
“As an individual and as a club we want to do better than okay.
“I’m still looking at a couple of areas during this window to try and improve – but only if I think someone is better than what we’ve already got.”
Meanwhile, Sinton has admitted that full-back Ryan Valentine is a doubt for Saturday’s FA Trophy clash at Cambridge as a result of the groin problem that forced him to limp out of the 3-1 win over Kettering.
“If there was a game tonight there’s be no way he could play,” said the Telford boss.
“But we’ll see where he is towards the end of the week, we haven’t ruled him out yet.”
