Boss Andy Sinton insists he is “fed up” with controversial decisions costing AFC Telford United – after a dodgy penalty set the stage for defeat at Braintree.

The Bucks looked on course for only a second away win of the Blue Square Bet Premier season when Jay Smith fired them into a seventh-minute lead in Essex on Saturday.

But Ben Wright scored twice for the hosts, the first a penalty on the stroke of half-time after on-loan winger Ashley Cain was harshly judged to have brought down Brad Quinton.

“If I said what I wanted to about the standard of the officials I would probably get into trouble,” said Sinton.

“If we’d gone in at half-time 1-0 up then I think we would have won the game, I haven’t got a crystal ball but I think the penalty changed the game.

“Ash is adamant he hasn’t made contact with the guy and their guy has come off the pitch and said he hasn’t made contact with him.

“I’m getting a bit fed up with how many controversial decisions are going against us and costing us points.”

The defeat meant Telford dropped to 18th in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.

But the Telford chief refused to criticise his side for their latest setback against one of the sides in the bottom half of the table.

“I can’t fault the lads’ endeavour,” he said. “Their attitude, I thought, was spot on. For 40 minutes we were by far the better side.

“Maybe we don’t go horrible enough or ugly enough against these so-called lesser sides, maybe we think we’ve got to play a little bit more. Maybe we’re better with the underdog tag.”
