Loan striker Elliott Chamberlain could come back into the AFC Telford United reckoning for Saturday’s trip to Braintree – but veteran marksman Steve Jones is struggling.

Chamberlain has only made one appearance since joining from Leicester City, a mystery breathing problem having forced him to miss the last four games.

Ex-Crewe man Jones aggravated his hamstring in last Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with York and is still not fully fit.

“Elliott trained on Saturday morning and again on Tuesday,” Sinton confirmed.

“He said there was a tiny bit of discomfort but nothing to stop him training.

“Steve is still feeling a bit of tightness in the calf area so we’ll have to have a look at that with a view to Saturday.

“He’s a good player and has done well for us already but we don’t want to push him and risk losing him for three or four weeks.”

Jones, 35, has made clear that he is keen to continue his career for some time yet.

And, having seen him score two goals from just two starts and two substitute appearances for the Bucks, Sinton is delighted to have him.

“He’s still fit and, if he wants to, he could play for another three, four, five years,” said the Telford chief.

“He’s not an out-and-out striker but he’ll still chip in with his fair share of goals and will be a useful asset.”

Meanwhile, Telford went down 2-0 to a Hereford United XI in a friendly at Ludlow Town’s SBS Stadium last night.

Sinton used the game as a chance to take a look at a couple of trialists, while right-sided defender-cum-winger Dwayne Samuels made his first appearance since suffering a broken toe.
