Killock backs AFC Telford to beat Cambridge

Skipper Shane Killock today welcomed AFC Telford United’s tough FA Trophy draw with Cambridge United, insisting: “We back ourselves to win.”

The Bucks will head to the Abbey Stadium on Saturday, January 14 for the second round tie – the draw being their reward for winning 2-0 at Nuneaton on Sunday afternoon.

Cambridge are flying high in fifth in the Blue Square Bet Premier and beat Telford 1-0 back in August – though Andy Sinton’s side created a hatful of chances in that game.

“It’s a great game for us,” said Killock.

“We went there for our first game of the season and were extremely unlucky not to win.

“I’ve not been involved in too many games where the team I have been playing for have created so many chances as the away team.

“We’ll go there with confidence because of that and believing that we can win – we know that they are a good side but we back ourselves to do it.”

Killock returned to the starting line-up at Nuneaton, having missed last Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with York through suspension.

The 22-year-old served a one-game ban after being sent off in his side’s 3-1 defeat at Bath but got his place back with Stuart Whitehead unavailable after the birth of his son Maxen.

“It was my first ever red card,” added Killock. “I suppose it had to come at some point but I hope it’s my first and last.

“It was so frustrating having to sit in the stand and watch the York game – to be fair to the lads they played really well and could easily have won.

“Obviously Stuart Whitehead having a child and having a couple of days off with his family gave me the chance to come back in.”
