Boss Andy Sinton has challenged AFC Telford United to re-produce their impressive York performance against the Blue Square Bet Premier’s “lesser” sides.

Telford dominated the second half of last night’s clash at home to the promotion-chasing Minstermen and were unlucky to come away with a 0-0 draw.

But Sinton was delighted by their display and revealed how a two-hour team meeting on Monday evening to discuss the fall-out from Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at bottom club Bath had paid dividends.

“I wouldn’t say it was a clear-the-air meeting, but I did all the talking,” said Sinton.

“I wanted a reaction individually and from the team I picked.

“I’ll throw the gauntlet down now – that’s what we are capable of doing but can we reproduce it more often than not?

“If we do against the lesser sides then we’ll win games.

“We have to pick up as many points as we can against the bottom half teams – the more points we get against them, the better chance we’ve got of finishing where we need to finish.”

Meanwhile, Sinton confirmed that summer signing Jordan Johnson had left the club, signing for Evo-Stik League premier division high-fliers Northwich Victoria for an undisclosed nominal fee.

Johnson joined from Newcastle Town but never made a competitive outing for Telford.

He had impressed, though, in loan spells at Chasetown and Northwich.

“He would certainly have been part of the squad and I would have been delighted to have him but he was indicating that he wanted regular football and I couldn’t guarantee him that,” said Sinton.

“I signed Jordan for the future but I need people for the now.

“He’s a fantastic lad and I think he’s got a bright future.

“He hasn’t kicked a ball for us but we’ve actually made a bit of money and we’ve got a sell-on clause so we haven’t done too bad in that respect.”
