AFC Telford offer brilliant response with point against York

What a brilliant response to our defeat on the weekend writes AFC Telford blogger Dan Clark.
After a poor performance against Bath, Telford needed to reply with a better performance against York, and they did. There were many players that deserved man of the match, notably due to their high energy levels and brilliant passing.
The only time I have seen Telford play with the same amount of domination in a half was in the first half against Cambridge. It was very reassuring.
York weren’t as dominant as they were in the reverse fixture in August. Upon reflection, I think we actually deserved three points this evening more than we did up at KitKat Crescent. We played with confidence; flair and spells of energetic passing, which gave every Telford fan hope that we would come away from the game with 3 points.
The only thing we lacked was luck. The amount of chances we had might have gone in on another day. But saves from Ingham and shots that narrowly missed the post denied the lads the victory they deserved.
Cain showed the reasons as to why Sinton was interested in him in the summer, combining pace and passing ability to produce a formidable display on the wing.
The reintroduction of Trainer also had benefits. Jay Smith played a more defensive role in midfield, which allowed Trainer to play in his more natural attacking role. He gave the defence a lot of trouble and in my opinion, produced his best display this season.
If this is the result of Sinton giving the players competition for places, then I believe it could be very effective in future games.
The first half wasn’t as impressive as the second. Both teams had a few chances, but nothing outstanding was produced. The second half though, was a completely different story. Telford came out believing they could beat York.
They upped their tempo and starting playing with a flair and confidence that we haven’t seen that much of this season. It was a delight to see as a Telford fan. Cain missed a couple of chances that could’ve easily gone in if he had had a bit more luck, and Trained tested the keeper with one of his trademark long shots.
Overall, we could have, and deserved to win the game. But a point against a promotion chasing side is a massive positive which we can take into the next league game against Braintree.
The FA Trophy is next, and the Bucks pay a visit to old Blue Square North rivals Nuneaton. They will certainly give us a test, but hopefully if we play like we did this evening, then we should see a decent cup run emerging.
