Revenge not on mind for York against AFC Telford

We’re not thinking about revenge.

That is the measured response of York City boss Gary Mills as he prepares to bring his side to AFC Telford United tonight.

The Bucks pulled off one of the shocks of the Blue Square Bet Premier season so far when a late Craig Farrell goal sealed a 1-0 win at Bootham Crescent back in August.

But the Minstermen have gone on to position themselves in the thick of the promotion race and their wily manager insists the defeat to Telford has long since been put behind them.

“The game against them in August was a disappointing day to lose like that having created an abundance of chances,” said Mills.

“It was early days for our new squad though, and a lot of time has passed since.

“It will be a tough game but we will go there confident.

“The match at our place has long gone and tonight won’t really be about putting things right for that defeat because we’ve done that over the last few months.”

York go into the game on the back of a stunning 7-0 victory over Kettering on Saturday.

And, ominously, Mills insisted that scoreline could have been even more emphatic.

“We perhaps should have got a few more as well but let’s not be greedy – we got seven and, like a lot of our goals this season, they were all clinical finishes after we passed the ball and waited for an opening,” he said.

“I could not ask for anything more from my players – it was a superb and professional performance.

“We’ve also kept four clean sheets in five matches which is another massive bonus.”

Mills will have some major selection headaches as he ponders his side for tonight’s game, with £60,000 striker Jason Walker and Andre Boucaud returning from suspension.

The duo have been regulars in the York side this season but their stand-ins – Jamie Reed and Danny Pilkington – both shone against Kettering. Reed scored twice while Pilkington was named man of the match.

York have two ex-Bucks in their ranks – full-back James Meredith and winger Matty Blair.
