Boss Andy Sinton hailed AFC Telford United’s latest big performance against one of the non-League giants – and challenged them to show the same character against the lesser lights.

The Bucks came from behind to earn an eye-catching 1-1 draw at Blue Square Bet Premier big guns Luton Town last night.

And – having won at York and drawn away to the likes of Fleetwood, Mansfield and Kidderminster this season – Sinton’s side are rapidly becoming a slayer of big reputations.

“We’ve got a decent record against the top teams but I think that, as a player, it is easy to get yourself up for the big games,” he said.

“We’ve got to get ourselves up for the games against the sides in and around us in the table and we have probably struggled more than I would like as a manager against these teams.

“The games against the Lutons and the Fleetwoods take care of themselves – though I was proud of our performance last night against an excellent side.

“We rode our luck a little bit but maybe over the last couple of weeks our luck has been turning because I didn’t think we got a great deal in the first half of the season.”

Sinton revealed Leicester loanee Elliott Chamberlain, who made his debut in Satuarday’s win over Barrow, had to be withdrawn during the pre-match warm-up.

Chamberlain had been set to start on the substitutes’ bench, but a breathing problem meant a late call-up for Nathan Rooney.

“Young Elliott was feeling something in his chest before kick-off and was struggling to breathe,” said Sinton.

“It was a bit of a worry so we got the Luton doctor to have a look at him and we’ll have to see how he is over the next few days

“Nathan wasn’t down to be on the team-sheet but that’s why we always take a couple of extra players with us.”
