AFC Telford skipper Shane Killock’s England call-up ‘shocker’
Tuesday 8th November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
AFC Telford United skipper Shane Killock today admitted his first ever England call-up had caught him by surprise.
Killock has been named in the England C squad for next Tuesday’s friendly away against Gibraltar and links up with the national squad for players outside the Football League on Sunday.
And the Yorkshire-based centre half is thrilled at the prospect of donning the Three Lions.
“It wasn’t something I was ever thinking about so to get the nod was a pleasant surprise,” said the 22-year-old, who is delighted the call-up doesn’t rule him out of any AFC Telford games.
“It’s the first time I have been called up and it’s a great privilege.
“It’s an 18-man squad flying out so I just have to train as hard as I can because to play some part next Tuesday would be a huge honour.”
Before Killock departs he has a major FA Cup date to contend with as the Bucks travel to take on Chelmsford in the first round proper.
And, despite a run of seven Blue Square Bet Premier games without a victory, Killock remains firm in his belief that Telford are close to turning the corner.
“We have had a few disappointing results but we’re not far away,” he added.
“All the games have been really tight and we just have to stick together.”
