AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton says he has singled out targets for the January transfer window as he plots the Bucks’ escape from the threat of relegation.

Following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Darlington, at the crisis club’s 27,000 seater stadium, Sinton said he hoped to sign “a bit of quality” in the hope of adding a creative spark to his misfiring side.

He said: “Darlington’s ground is a wonderful place to play and to be here next year we need to start getting some results, and with a bit of luck we will.

“We will need a little bit of help in the window, to go out and get some extra quality I think we will need.

“It’s about trying to find the right deal. I believe we have a squad that can compete but it’s becoming evident we need more quality.

“I know the areas and have been saying that for a couple of weeks.

“We’re out there and we’ve identified targets, but other managers have as well. Sometimes it comes down to things off the field.”

Sinton admitted the club’s transition to the Blue Square Bet Premier had been trickier than expected, but with two home games coming up in the league, he said he hoped to set the side back on track.

He said: “Every game’s important but home games are very important as we have our people with us.

“It’s easy to support a club when everything’s going well, and this is when we need the fans more than ever because it’s a massive step up.

“It’s probably taken everybody by surprise how tough it’s been, it’s been a little bit tougher than I envisaged.

“While we are close we can add and improve and that’s what we will be doing.”
