Defender Will Salmon has urged AFC Telford United to “beware the wounded animal” at Darlington tomorrow – as captain Shane Killock received international recognition.

The Bucks make the long trip to the 25,000 capacity Northern Echo Arena aiming to end a run of six games without a victory in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Darlington have themselves had a month to forget with the Quakers lying 14th in the table, still managerless after the sacking of former Telford man Mark Cooper and reeling from being dumped out of the FA Cup 3-0 by lower ranked Hinckley in midweek.

But Salmon has warned his team-mates to expect a Darlington backlash.

“We have got to beware the wounded animal because that is what they are going to be,” said the Basingstoke-based full back, who expects to return to his Hampshire base at around 1am on Sunday morning.

“We have to be professional and then when we get our chances, be clinical and ruthless in front of goal.

“I’m looking forward to it because I’ve never played against Darlington,.

“They have always been a League club and they have got the best stadium in the division.

“It’s a Championship ground – they just can’t get the attendances so we will have to generate our own atmosphere.”

Boss Andy Sinton will make a late check on former Darlington defender Stuart Whitehead, who has been sidelined for a week with ankle and knee injuries.

Meanwhile, Killock has been named in the England C squad – open to players who ply their trade outside the Football League – for the trip to Gibraltar on Tuesday, November 15.

Boss Paul Fairclough will use the game as preparation for next year’s International Challenge Trophy campaign.
