Blue Square South side Chelmsford stand between AFC Telford United and a first ever appearance in the second round of the FA Cup.

The Essex outfit edged past Gloucester City 1-0 in a fourth preliminary round replay played at Cheltenham’s Whaddon Road ground last night.

And that means Andy Sinton’s side will face the long trip south to meet a side currently sixth in Blue Square South on Saturday week.

While Sinton is sure to be wary of a trip to face a side only 11 places below them in the non-League pyramid, the tie will represent the Bucks best chance of reaching the second round since the club was formed in 2004.

AFC Telford have twice reached the first round proper only to be beaten by Football League opposition, Southend after a replay in 2008 and Lincoln City 12 months later.

While Sinton’s current crop have their sights on writing a slice of knockout football club history, cup heroes from the past have been honoured.
