Whitehead plans AFC Telford return
Wednesday 26th October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Defender Stuart Whitehead hopes to be back in the AFC Telford United frame next week – after collecting ankle and knee injuries which were inflicted by his own captain.
The 35-year-old suffered knee ligament damage and a swollen ankle on his left leg as he tried in vain to prevent Forest Green taking the lead during their 2-1 win over the Bucks earlier this month.
That had been the experienced centre-back’s first start in more than a month – and it was only after watching TV footage of the incident that he realised that defensive partner Shane Killock was the unwitting culprit.
He said: “I went to block it and I was caught by Shane so he was the one who actually did it, though it was just one of those things – we both went for the same ball.”
