AFC Telford set to take on Alfreton Town tonight

Alfreton Town boss Nicky Law will demand a committed display from his side at AFC Telford United tonight – after accusing them of complacency in their latest outing.

The Derbyshire side romped to the Blue Square Bet North title last season, beating the Bucks into a second place by a clear 10 points.

But while Andy Sinton’s Telford have quickly settled at the higher level after winning promotion through the play-offs, Alfreton have found it harder to acclimatise.

And that fact made Law all the more mystified by the way his side started against Blue Square Bet South play-off winners Ebbsfleet United on Saturday – falling 2-0 down before fighting back to rescue a point.

“They came to us with more determination than us they wanted it more than us and they got what they deserved, a 2-0 lead,” he said.

“It was a shambolic by us, the defending for the goals and the level of performance.

“Believe me they (the players) found that out at half-time. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what I said to them.

“I shouldn’t be having to do that. I shouldn’t be having to come in and say to an Alfreton Town team that we have to get our mindset right and up the tempo.”

“With all due respect – and I include myself in this – we are not big hitters in this league,” he added.

“We are not in the Conference North any more where we were expected to win every week – now we are the underdogs every week.

“Where on earth they got that mindset from on Saturday I do not know and it isn’t the first time I have had to say that this season.”

s Alfreton might have had a difficult start to life in the top tier of non-League football – but the Bucks may still find them a tough nut to crack tonight.

Town’s 2-2 draw with Ebbsfleet earned them their first Saturday point of the season but in four midweek games they have picked up eight points – with two wins and two draws.
