AFC Telford eager to upset odds against Luton tonight
Tuesday 13th September 2011, 11:52AM BST.
AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton is eager to upset the odds against Conference big-hitters Luton Town tonight – and urged the fans to play their part.
The mouth-watering fixture was originally scheduled for the first day of the season but was postponed amid safety fears surrounding a political rally taking place the same day.
Now Sinton has called on his team to rise to the challenge against the favourites for the Blue Square Bet Premier title.
“They’re the big team at our level,” said Sinton. “They’ve had a slippery start but they just missed out on promotion by penalty kicks last year.
“People will raise their game against them. They’re always playing in a cup final because teams always want to raise their game.
“We have to make sure that when they come to Telford it’s another cup final for them to play in.
“The supporters will be looking forward to it and it will be a great atmosphere there.”
Sinton admits the visitors will be favourites for the fixture but believes Telford are more than capable of springing a surprise following an encouraging 1-1 draw with Stockport County last time out.
“We go in as underdogs which we’re quite happy to do,” said the Telford boss.
“We’re looking forward to it and we’re full of confidence.
“If my lads put in another performance like they have for all the games other than two periods of two games then we’ll be in the game.”
Sinton is expected to have defender Dan Preston fit again after a virus while midfielder Richard Davies and striker Adam Proudlock have both overcome injuries and are available for selection.
