ROB HUGHES: Before the game I would have taken a point against the draw specialists of the league so far – but how it could have been even better with two fantastic chances in the last five minutes.

In the end though, I came away feeling frustrated not to have got more from the game. For an ex-Football League side Stockport didn’t seem to offer. And once again the opposition could have been reduced to ten men, but the referee chose – in the main – to ignore reprimanding players in blue and white stripes.

Both Reid and Mills drew ‘studs-up’ challenges, but instead of clamping down on it the County players were given the benefit of the doubt.

When we went two up front I couldn’t help but think we should have been more dangerous, the late chances perhaps indicate that, although with Chris Sharp being asked to drop deeper, I felt we reduced his effectiveness around the box somewhat, resulting in him not actually having a chance himself.

In the continued absence of Adam Proudlock, I would pair Sharp with the creative Alex Meechan, as I feel his endeavours would fashion the chances for the recent acquisition.

Carl Rodgers made a good contribution on his return to the team, doing the simple things well and really breaking up the opposition play. You know what you get with ‘Bruno’ though and he enabled Phil Trainer to play further forward.

Nathan Rooney on the other hand, is still finding his feet at this level and will probably want to show more in future games, he is still young though and will have plenty of opportunities to claim a regular starting place.

One of our strengths so far this season, has been the workmanlike performances in the engine room, perhaps down to whichever three we have had in there, added to the individual performances of all three of our centre-halves. Having said all this though I’m still waiting for us to see an established partnership up top that I think will register us a few more points on the board.

Anyway, on to the next couple of home games, and here’s hoping that we are able to register back to back wins and fire ourselves up the early league table!
