AFC Telford told to cut out lapses against Stockport
Friday 9th September 2011, 11:55AM BST.
AFC Telford were today urged to cut out the costly lapses as they prepare to launch a home triple-header against high-profile Stockport tomorrow.
The Bucks face three home encounters in the space of seven days with Luton and Bath following swiftly on the back of former Liverpool and Germany star Dietmar Hamann bringing his County team to Telford tomorrow.
And experienced defender Stuart Whitehead believes Telford are close to regularly churning out positive results in Blue Square Bet Premier.
“We are satisfied with the performances so far, just not the results,” said the 34-year-old.
“We have played well for 70 or 80 minutes in a lot of games and it’s just little 10 or 15 minutes lapses which are costing us.
“We don’t feel we have deserved to lose a lot of the games that we have, but this league is punishing and teams take their chances a lot more clinically than they did last season.
“If we can cut those lapses out, we will be fine.”
Whitehead believes the Bucks should have a clear target for the next seven days.
“They are all tough games at this level but they don’t come much bigger than Stockport and Luton in a few days,” he added.
“First and foremost, we have to stay unbeaten.
“That breeds confidence and then hopefully we can pick up a few wins out of the three games as well.”
Hamann brings his new-look Stockport squad to Telford on the back of five draws in seven games, the latest coming in a 1-1 scoreline against fancied Luton last weekend.
“That set a benchmark and we need to produce these performances on a consistent basis,” said Hamann.
“If we can get three points against Telford, it will give us a bit more confidence and belief in ourselves.”
