New AFC Telford United striker Chris Sharp is confident there is more to come from him – and the club – as he settles into life in the Blue Square Premier.

Sharp made his debut in last weekend’s 3-2 reverse at Southport and is desperate to make his first home appearance in this weekend’s visit of Stockport.

And the son of former Everton star Graeme is convinced he made the right decision in swapping Welsh Premier League side The New Saints for the New Bucks Head.

“There are signs that the club is going in the right direction,” said Sharp.

“I’d like to have scored on my debut and it would have got that monkey off my back.

“But I’m confident that the team will create enough chances and that I can stick away a few goals.

“I saw enough at Southport to see the boys will create chances. I don’t set myself targets – if I do I might be disappointed or try too hard – so I just tend to go with the flow.”

Sharp became the first player to move to Telford for a transfer fee in five years.

But the 25-year-old insisted that will not weight heavily around his neck.

“I don’t think it gives me any added pressure,” he said.

“It’s a big thing for the club but I just get on with the football and hopefully let my football do the talking.”

Having played in the Welsh set-up throughout his career, Sharp is confident he can adjust to life across the border.

“I’d say it’s a step up in terms of nationally it’s a more recognised league,” he said.

“I think the better teams in the Welsh Premier League are pretty similar.

“Either way, I’m confident I will do well at the club and score goals.”

Despite his move to Telford, Sharp was at The Venue last night to watch his old team-mates TNS beat Neath 3-0 in the Welsh Premier League.
