ROB HUGHES: Excellent! Three well deserved points from the latest battle at the Bucks Head.

Saturday certainly saw us produce an encouraging performance where we caused the opposition problems with the pace and front running of Greg Mills and Dwayne Samuels, backed up again by the midfield trio of Davies, Valentine and Trainer in the engine room.

Each and every player that pulled on the shirt typified what our club is all about: Togetherness, spirit and enthusiasm.

Andy Brown put himself back in the firing line, with a gutsy performance up top. Yes, many were expecting the introduction of Spencer Weir-Daley, but the battering ram of Brown caused the County backline no end of difficulties, cumulating in him winning the penalty, expertly despatched by Sean Newton.

Once again our temperament was first class with Newport ending up with nine men – and I felt they were lucky to go in with the full compliment still intact at half-time.

In the end, they truly did press the self-destruct button with Samuels and Ryan Valentine being tormentors in chief.

Dan Preston showed his adaptability even more – adjusting effortlessly to the introduction of Whitehead at half-time, in place of captain magnificent Shane Killock .

Four games played and a 50 per cent return on points. I am delighted with how we have started this season. There’s still plenty to come from us. And surely that is only a good thing.

Now we have to keep belie– and who knows where will we end up?

A pleasing attendance, with another decent away following – Stockport County coming up after Tamworth and Southport, that could really be a bumper crowd if we can remain unbeaten.

I have said it, once and I’ll say it again, now is an exciting time to be following the Bucks!
