Lee Carter distraught as AFC Telford game pulled
Thursday 11th August 2011, 2:38PM BST.
Chairman Lee Carter today admitted his frustration at seeing AFC Telford United’s big return to the top tier of non-League football postponed, admitting: “The dream has become a nightmare.”
The Bucks were due to announce their arrival in the Blue Square Bet Premier with a home clash against joint title favourites Luton Town on Saturday evening.
Kick-off had already been put back to 7.45pm because of safety fears surrounding a planned English Defence League march on the same day – and police chiefs have now intervened to insist the match be called off.
It means the Bucks’ first game at this level since the old Telford United went bust in 2004 will now be away at Cambridge United on Tuesday evening.
“Three or four weeks ago we had a dream tie to start the season with and we couldn’t have asked any more,” said Carter.
