AFC Telford boss weighs up options as Wolves await
Monday 8th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Boss Andy Sinton could bring in a new striker before AFC Telford United’s big kick-off on Saturday.
Sinton will be without star forward Adam Proudlock tonight as Telford wrap up their hectic pre-season schedule with a match against a Wolves XI at the New Bucks Head (7.45pm).
The former Wolves man missed Saturday’s penalty shoot-out Shropshire Senior Cup defeat against The New Saints with a groin strain.
Sinton is hopeful that Proudlock will be fit to face Luton at the weekend but he is also keeping his ear to the ground for a temporary replacement.
He said: “Adam limped off after 28 minutes against Chasetown just when I was looking to get 90 minutes under his belt and possibly some on Monday night.
“He’s got a little bit of a groin problem but speaking to him he doesn’t seem to think it’s too bad.
“He certainly won’t play tonight but hopefully he will be able to declare himself fit (for Luton).
“If we have to miss him for a game or two, so be it. I don’t want to play him in one game and then he breaks down and we lose him for six weeks.
“Do I cope with what I’ve got or do I go and bring someone else in? That’s something I’ve got to assess pretty quickly.
“I’ve had a couple of calls and people with pedigree are available.”
Sinton said he would probably be looking at a loan move or a short term deal.
He has also looked at centre-back options – but with Stuart Whitehead nearing fitness, that is now less of a priority. Whitehead is likely to be involved tonight in a mixed team of experience and youth.
“If some players need more game time, I’ll play them,” Sinton said. “If they’ve done enough, I won’t.”
