AFC Telford United scored three goals away from home for the second friendly in succession – but their latest victory came at a price.

The Bucks were 3-1 winners at Aberystwyth on Saturday and went one better against Evo-Stik League premier division side Rushall last night, keeping a clean sheet.

But their evening was marred by injuries to midfielder Carl Rodgers and summer signing Robbie Williams.

Rodgers had to go to hospital for stitches on a cut under his eye while centre-back Williams hobbled off with a twisted knee.

On the field, a Telford team packed with players aiming to force their way into manager Andy Sinton’s plans always looked in control of the game.

They could have taken the lead within two minutes, Craig Farrell slamming a 20-yard free-kick against the left-hand post.

The Bucks continued to press and took the lead on 10 minutes, Levi Reid whipping in a right wing cross for Farrell to side-foot in from eight yards.

Chances continued to come and go before half-time, skipper-for-the-night Jon Adams blasting into the side netting and then forcing Malhotra into a low save.

Telford’s first setback came on 51 minutes, Williams limping off after tweaking his knee.

And, on the hour, Rodgers was taken off following a clash with veteran former Buck, Gary Fitzpatrick.

Telford put the disappointment behind them to add a third on 63 minutes, Will Richards with a glancing volley off a cross from Courtney Pitt.

And they sealed a comprehensive victory nine minutes from time when James Lawrie volleyed in off a rasping low cross from Farrell.

“There were some really good performances,” said assistant manager Darren Read, who was in charge of the side.

“Courtney Pitt was excellent and Jon Adams was back to his old self.

“Dwayne Samuels and Levi Reid were excellent – two attacking full-backs with pace and quality.”
