Sinton: AFC Telford have achieved nothing yet
Monday 9th May 2011, 2:43PM BST.
AFC Telford United are anticipating a sell-out for Sunday’s promotion play-off final against Guiseley, with boss Andy Sinton today insisting: “We’ve achieved nothing yet.”
The Bucks moved within one win of the top tier of non-League football thanks to a 2-1 win over Nuneaton yesterday that sealed a 3-2 aggregate victory in the semi-final.
And Guiseley followed suit by defeating Boston United 3-2 on penalties to set up an intriguing final showdown at the New Bucks Head next Sunday (3pm) – with chairman Lee Carter forecasting a capacity crowd of 5,800.
“It will be a tough game – it promises to be an exciting, nerve-racking, horrible afternoon for everyone,” said Sinton. “People might think that because we’ve beaten them twice in the league that this is the easier game.
“But when we beat them at home I went on record as saying they were probably the best side we’d played.
“They have beaten Boston over two legs and they showed great character to win at Boston’s ground.
“I am proud of my players for what they have done all season since I walked through the door but my message is that we have won nothing yet so we have to go and finish the job.”
Guiseley took just 102 fans to Boston for their second leg and Carter today confirmed that they would receive an allocation of around 250 to 300 for the final – which will NOT be all-ticket for either set of supporters.
“We anticipate that it’s likely to be a full house,” said Carter. “The fact that we’re even in a position to be playing anyone in a play-off final is a remarkable achievement.”
