Andy Sinton: Bucks must hold our nerve
Saturday 7th May 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Determined boss Andy Sinton has called for “cool heads” as AFC Telford United go gunning for a place in the Blue Square Bet North play-off final.
Their semi-final tie is poised on a knife-edge, with Phil Trainer’s injury-time equaliser at Nuneaton on Tuesday meaning that the two sides start all-square at 1-1 in tomorrow’s second leg at the New Bucks Head (1pm).
But Sinton wants everyone — players and fans alike — to keep their cool in what is sure to be a red-hot atmosphere.”We don’t have to win it in the first 20 minutes,” said Sinton. “We need to keep our composure and we have to hold our nerves.
“The lads have been terrific and I thought they handled the game and the occasion brilliantly the other night.
“It will be another great occasion tomorrow but we have to play the game, not the occasion.
“The fans have a massive part to play as well, bigger than they probably realise,” he added. “We want them to be noisy and make it intimidating for the opposition.
Quality
“But it’s key, if we’ve not got our noses in front after half an hour or if we’ve not been on top of our game, that they stay with us.
“It’s a day for clear heads and everybody — on and off the field — has got a part to play.”
Sinton insists his side have the necessary quality to get the result they want and does not want his players to be unduly worried about the opposition.
“There is bound to be apprehension and a few nerves but we can’t let that interfere with the way we play,” he said.
“A manager once said to me that you don’t fear failure and you don’t fear success,” he added.
Telford are expected to have a full squad available .
