AFC Telford ready to banish blip as ace returns

Upbeat boss Andy Sinton believes AFC Telford United are in the frame of mind to banish the memory of their latest blip when they travel to Hinckley tomorrow.

The Bucks went down 1-0 at home to Boston last Saturday, a second defeat in three games leading some to question if their form was dipping at just the wrong time.

But Sinton has been delighted by the response at training this week and is confident they can set the record straight at struggling Hinckley to get their Blue Square Bet North promotion bid back on track.

“People think it’s a nothing sort of game but there are a few things at stake,” said Sinton.

“We’re not guaranteed a play-off place yet and, however unlikely it is, we’ve still got an outside chance of winning the league.

“They are still not mathematically safe from relegation. They still need points so we have to expect them to go for it.

“I’m looking for a reaction to last Saturday and I’ve certainly had that in training,” he added. “There’s been a real spring in the step this week.

“Nobody likes to get beat but maybe it was a wake-up call and we’ve had two really good nights from the lads.”

Sinton admits tomorrow’s trip to the Greene King Stadium may have come too soon for Alex Meechan, who is still short of full fitness after tearing a calf muscle.

But key striker Adam Proudlock came through training with flying colours last night and could come into the reckoning.

“I’ll be guided by him,” said the Telford chief. “He knows his body.

“He’s lost a few pounds as a result of the intensive training he’s had at Lilleshall this week.

“If he’s fit it gives everyone a boost because he’s a vital part of the team.”
