Rob Hughes: A bumper crowd in the sunshine with the away fans creating an atmosphere – unfortunately this wasn’t reciprocated by the home fans and team.

Despite matching the opposition in terms of desire, the fundamentals of defending set-pieces once again, was our downfall. This goal was certainly avoidable – after taking the man off the back post the header could have been cleared.

From this, heads went down. Boston were nothing special, but on this showing, neither were we. As it panned out, Boston did to us exactly what we had done to them at the Jakeman’s Stadium back in February – they got in front, then proceeded to defend for their lives, stifled the home team and came away with a doggedly, deserved clean sheet.

At present, we are really in danger of limping over the finish line. Four goals conceded in three games, all from set-pieces. The pitches are now getting back to the same as they were in early season, August and September, when Liam Murray and Shane Killock stood firm at the heart of our defence.

Our destiny is still in our own hands, but losing at this stage of the season, to potential play-off rivals does not bode well.

Every player needs to dust themselves down and stand up to be counted. We have the ability within the team. I can’t question that. We have seen it this season and sitting in second place in the league means we are better than many of the sides in our league.

The next month and a half or so, we need to prove to ourselves and everybody else why we want to be performing at the next level and showing what we are capable of.

Saying all of that, we can only do that with everyone behind us, supporting us. Teams have bad days at the office, we need to be supporting our players and backing them.

Too often around me on Saturday there were moans and groans aplenty.

We need something to re-ignite us – Adam Proudlock, can that be you? Starting next weekend against Hinckley United?
