AFC Telford’s Andy Sinton is manager of the month

Manager Andy Sinton has won AFC Telford United’s first ‘trophy’ of the season – by being named the Blue Square Bet North manager of the month for February.

Sinton guided his side to three league wins out of three, starting with a 1-0 win and following up with another 1-0 victory at Boston before a 2-1 home win over much-fancied Alfreton.

The Bucks tomorrow head to Guiseley – another of the leading promotion contenders – lying third and aiming to keep their title hopes burning brightly.

“I’m very pleased and very proud but it’s really an award for team of the month because the players and backroom staff should take a great deal of credit,” said Sinton.

“I’m delighted to get it and I’ll be even more delighted if I get manager of the season because that means we’ve probably got promoted.”

Meanwhile, Telford’s top scorer Adam Proudlock could be set for a recall at Guiseley.

The 29-year-old, who has scored 11 goals this season, has not started a game since the end of January following an ankle injury in training.

But Sinton is considering throwing him back into the fray at Nethermoor Park, insisting his team need to start taking more responsibility in front of goal.

“It may be time for Adam Proudlock to come back in,” said Sinton. “I’m not saying he will definitely start tomorrow but he is fit again and he’s raring to go.

“We do need to be more ruthless and we need people to step up to the plate – there are areas of the team that have got to contribute more goals.

“The goals per game ratio of some of the players in attacking areas is not too good – we can’t just rely on Andy Brown, Adam Proudlock and Phil Trainer to score all the goals.”

  • There is international football at the New Bucks Head tonight – with England schoolboys facing Northern Ireland in the U18 Centenary Shield (7pm).
