Boss Andy Sinton is urging AFC Telford United to build on their dramatic victory over Blue Square Bet North title favourites Alfreton, insisting: “We can win this league.”

Goals from skipper Shane Killock and striker Andy Brown sealed a 2-1 win at the New Bucks Head over the Derbyshire side, who were previously unbeaten away from home in all competitions.

The performance delighted Sinton, who now wants his side to push on and make a strong challenge for automatic promotion after climbing back to second in the table.

“I think we can win the league and I’ve said that to the players,” said the Bucks boss. “Let’s not look at what’s behind us, let’s look at what’s above.

“That was a really big three points last night — they’ve got games in hand and they’re the favourites but their fixture list sees nine out of the last 19 games against sides in the top seven.

“They’re a good side and whoever finishes above Alfreton will win this league but we’ve lost two in 25 so I couldn’t ask for any more.

“I’m not going to stand on top of the stand and shout through a loud hailer, but I think we’ve got a chance — how much of a chance depends on what we do in the next 15 games.”

Sinton also praised the Telford supporters, who certainly made their voices heard in a crowd of 2,062 — easily the highest for a night match this season.

“I thought the fans were absolutely brilliant,” he added. “That’s the first time since I’ve been here I’ve heard all the ground sing.

“Midway through that second half when it was 1-0 they were singing behind us, the main stand was singing, behind the goal they were singing.”
