AFC Telford United boss Sinton talking positive

Boss Andy Sinton has sought to take the pressure off promotion-chasing AFC Telford United, insisting: “We can’t worry about anyone else.”

Their 1-0 win away to fellow contenders Boston lifted them to second in the Blue Square Bet North table on Saturday.

They could drop a place tonight if title favourites Alfreton, who are two points behind the Bucks with five games in hand, win at home to Blyth Spartans.

But Sinton does not want his players worrying about the Derbyshire side, declaring: “If Alfreton win all their games in hand they go out of sight.

“We have them to play once more (at home on Tuesday next week) and that’s the only time we can do anything about them.

“I’m trying to change the culture from being negative.

“I’m a really positive person and I try to get that across to my team.”

“We’ve got a good record against teams in the top five and we have to keep that going,” he added.

Sinton also believes Saturday’s win at Boston, which came courtesy of an Andy Brown header, has done wonders for belief.

Now he wants his side to play with freedom during the all-important run-in over the next two-and-a-half months.

“Confidence all season has been good,” said Sinton.

“I want people playing with smiles on their faces.

“There are times when we have got to criticise the players, but I try and do that in the right way.

“I want to create an environment where they are free to play.”
