Performances like that make you proud to be associated with our club.

Taking on second in the league Boston – on the back of their derby victory against Gainsborough in their own backyard and coming away with a clean sheet and a vital three points is just the tonic!

Everyone put in a shift on Saturday afternoon at the Jakemans Stadium and while it wasn’t to our usual free flowing high tempo standard it was nitty, gritty, heart on sleeve football that saw us emerge victorious.

Andy Brown led the line, linking with Alex Meechan buzzing in and around him. It was similar to the way they played between August and October, clever interplay and combinations and once again showing the promise of that partnership. If only we could keep them both fit to really get them firing together.

Brown’s fitness always seems to be a concern and maybe that caused him to become mentally tired when he gave the penalty away.

In one game, he could have gone from hero to villain, but Ryan Young came to the fore, keeping another clean sheet intact with the game winning penalty save!

One real chance, one goal. A very well taken Brown header and one I’m extremely pleased for him to score because he has got in that sort of position many times over the past couple of years, but has struggled to convert the chance.

Three points and a performance to show the lads are definitely up for the challenges that lie ahead certainly makes a five hour round trip more enjoyable. And as our attentions turn to Harrogate this coming Saturday, more of the same fighting spirit needs to be evident to keep the Bucks marching on.

With possible re-inforcements due to come in over the next couple of days and the belief to be drawn from Saturday, the future continues to look bright. Alfreton dropping two points against Workington, and facing Blyth and Solihull this week, two of the form teams, who knows what the league could be looking like at 5pm in a week.
