AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has backed his charges to triumph in the “play-off mini-league” ahead of tomorrow’s trip to high-flying Boston United.

The Bucks make the long trip north a point behind the Pilgrims but Sinton believes his side’s form against their fellow promotion contenders gives reason for optimism.

Telford have taken four points from leaders Nuneaton as well as defeating Guiseley and drawing with at Alfreton – the other sides in the top five – so far this term.

“Our form against the better teams has been good this season,” said Sinton.

“It’s important that you can win the matches against teams in and around you because it can make a big difference.

It gives us three points and takes three points away from Boston and it means we will overtake them.

“There’s a little gap at the moment to the play-offs. We’ve done well in these type of games so far this season and hopefully that will continue.”

But the Telford chief is under no illusions just how tough a task it will be to return from York Street with the three points.

“They’re a good side and they’re obviously going well,” said Sinton. “It’s got the makings of being a really good game.”

Meanwhile Sinton admitted he was still searching for extra bodies to lift Telford’s promotion charge, with a goalkeeper now top of his priority list.

No 1 Ryan Young will miss three games following tomorrow’s trip leaving teenager Daniel Platt as the only recognised senior stopper.

Sinton said defenders Stuart Whitehead and Liam Murray were expected to shake off knocks for the trip north while leading goalscorer Adam Proudlock is fit again after an ankle injury but fellow forward Andy Brown is a doubt.
