Andy Brown to answer Bucks’ call against Darlington
Friday 4th February 2011, 1:19PM GMT.
Striker Andy Brown is set to answer “underdogs” AFC Telford United’s call for tomorrow’s big FA Trophy showdown with Darlington.
Top scorer Adam Proudlock is likely to miss out due to an ankle injury but Brown, who had been struggling with a calf problem, responded well in training last night.
New loan signing Sam Gwynne, from Hereford, has also been ear-marked for a debut as the Bucks aim to dump the full-timers out of the competition at the New Bucks Head and move within two ties of a Wembley final.
“We’ll look at both strikers tomorrow but Andy in particular is making good progress,” said Sinton, who could also recall midfielder Phil Trainer after a one-game ban.
“Sam trained with us last night. He fitted in well and will give us something extra. Darlington are a big club in stature and it’s not so long ago that they were in the Football League,” he added.
“We’re the underdogs in many senses and I would have thought that the majority of people would expect them to progress.
“It’s up to us to tip the scales the other way. I know what we’re capable of and I certainly know they’ll be in for a game.
“They got well beaten on Tuesday (4-0), albeit by a good Luton side.
“They could be twitchy because of that or there could be a reaction and their manager Mark Cooper won’t know which it is until five past three tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Sinton is still looking to add a new striker to his ranks, though that is now unlikely to happen in time for the Trophy tie.
The Bucks boss has been tracking a loan deal for a League forward but that has had to go on the back-burner after the player picked up an injury in training.
Sinton is also monitoring a non-League hitman but other clubs in the Blue Square Bet North are also showing an interest.
