Sinton criticises AFC Telford postponement

Boss Andy Sinton has blasted the decision to postpone AFC Telford United’s next league game due to international call-ups, insisting: “It’s not a level playing field.”

The Bucks entertain Darlington in the FA Trophy on Saturday and were then due to host Droylsden in the Blue Square Bet North next Tuesday.

That has now been put back to Tuesday, April 12 after the Bloods were told they could request a postponement due to their defender Liam Brownhill’s call-up to the England C team.

Telford had Sean Newton on international duty earlier in the season but were not informed of the option to call the game off – and the left-back missed their FA Cup exit at the hands of Buxton as a result.

“You don’t want to stop players playing for their country but if that’s the case for one club why isn’t it the case for another?” said Sinton.

“I find it absolutely ridiculous. Sean Newton went away earlier in the season but we weren’t made aware we could postpone it.

“I think it’s worth an explanation because suddenly it seems we are not operating on a level playing field.

“I’m not moaning at Droylsden, if that is the rule then they have the right to exercise it. I’m just asking why other clubs haven’t been given the same luxury.”

Meanwhile, Sinton is closing in on a new striker in time to strengthen his squad for the Trophy last 16 clash with Darlington.

The Telford chief has already brought Hereford midfielder Sam Gwynne in on loan and is out to strengthen his attacking options.

First choice front pair Adam Proudlock and Andy Brown are both doubts after missing the 1-0 win at Workington on Tuesday through injury.

And Sinton added: “I just think we need to freshen it up a little bit.”
