Forward James Lawrie is banking on his two-goal salvo earning him a regular place in AFC Telford United’s starting line-up.

The Northern Ireland international, a summer signing from Port Vale, scored both his side’s goals in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Hinckley.

The 20-year-old, who netted an 87th minute equaliser to rescue a point for the Bucks, was making his 19th appearance of the season – but only his seventh start.

“I was pleased to start after not being in the squad recently,” said Lawrie.

“It’s about being patient, waiting for my chance and then taking it – and I did all right on Saturday with the two goals.

“We battled hard after they scored (to take the lead) and I think we definitely deserved the point.

“I just want to cement my place in the team now, whatever position the gaffer wants me to play.”

Meanwhile, boss Andy Sinton praised his side’s resilience in coming from behind to avoid back-to-back defeats, following last Tuesday’s 3-0 reverse at Blyth Spartans.

But he admits he is still looking to add reinforcements to strengthen his side for the second half of the season.

“I was pleased with the way we bounced back on Saturday but there’s still a bit of work to do and there’s still a couple of areas we need to improve on,” Said Sinton. “I know where we need to improve and I’m looking. We were quoted a couple of figures for players last week that we can’t entertain at our level.

“We’ll keep looking but the squad as a whole has been terrific.

“We’re averaging two points a game and at the start of the season I’d have taken that because you won’t be too far away.”
