Bucks make the most of blank weekend

AFC Telford United made the most of their latest blank weekend – with the three-man coaching staff heading out on a hastily-arranged scouting mission.

The Bucks were left kicking their heels in frustration when Saturday’s scheduled trip to Workington was called off due to a partly frozen, partly waterlogged pitch.

But boss Andy Sinton made the most of a bad situation, over-seeing a training session at Shrewsbury Sports Village then going on to take in Nuneaton’s 3-2 win over Blyth Spartans in the Blue Square Bet North.

Assistant manager Darren Read headed south to watch high-flying Boston United’s 1-0 win at Gloucester while coach John Psaras saw Hinckley – who Telford play a week on Saturday – come from behind to win 3-2 at Redditch.

“I was a little bit surprised when I got a call from the Workington manager Darren Edmondson telling me the game was in doubt,” said Sinton.

“But one of our directors Dave Topping had already gone up there and he said it wasn’t even borderline, there was no chance of it being on.

“But we made the most of it with a good training session before going off to watch a few games.”

Telford remain third in the table, though they are now four points adrift of top two Alfreton and Guiseley.

Nuneaton are also level on points with the Bucks and have a game in hand.

But Sinton insisted: “I don’t waste time worrying about other teams and how they are getting on.

“We have to get our own job done and so far this season we’ve done great.

“I’m a great believer that you end the season where you deserve to be and we’re still in a great position.”
