Boss Andy Sinton insists AFC Telford United will travel with confidence to Workington tomorrow — despite failing in his bid to strengthen the squad.

The Telford chief had been keen to add a winger to replace departed loan ace Greg Mills and remains eager to sign new faces in other areas.

But he insists he is happy with the options at his disposal as the Bucks look to extend their eight-game unbeaten run in the Blue Square Bet North at Workington’s Borough Park.

“We’re fine going into battle with what we’ve got,” he said.

“We just need a couple of bodies to bolster us but we are happy with our squad.

“If you ask me what is going to happen with Greg Mills then I’d say that I think there’s a good chance he’ll come back, but I don’t really know.”

Workington have played just twice since the end of November, winning 2-0 at Stafford on December 11 and drawing 1-1 at home to Blyth on New Year’s Day.

They had lost six league games in a row before then – including a 1-0 loss at the New Bucks Head – and bowed out of the FA Trophy with a 4-0 defeat at Chasetown.

But Sinton insisted: “It will be a tough game, there are no two ways about that.

“We had to work really hard to get our noses in front at our place six or seven weeks ago.”

Meanwhile, officials at Workington are not expecting the weather to threaten tomorrow’s game – despite calling a precautionary pitch inspection for before 8am tomorrow.

“We had a heavy frost last night but the forecast is slightly warmer tonight and we expect it to be damp,” said club secretary Steve Durham.

“We don’t anticipate any problems and we expect the game to go ahead but the chairman wants to have a look in the morning.”
