Darren Read says AFC Telford can last promotion pace

Assistant manager Darren Read is confident AFC Telford United can last the promotion pace in Blue Square Bet North – if they prove happy travellers over the next month.

Monday’s goalless draw at Nuneaton kicked off a run of four successive away league games for boss Andy Sinton’s side.

Saturday’s long trip to Workington is followed by the re-arranged derby at Stafford Rangers next Tuesday.

While a home FA Trophy tie against either Rushden or Eastwood breaks the run on Saturday, January 15, the Bucks are back on the road the following Tuesday for the marathon trek to Blyth Spartans.

“It’s a tough run but if we come through this still well placed, then we will be in a very strong position to remain in contention until April,” said Read.

“It’s always difficult going to places like Workington and Blyth,” said Read.

“Blyth Spartans in particular in midweek is a tough one because it means lads are having to change their work schedules.

“We know it’s an important time for us but we are going into the games with confidence.”

Meanwhile, Read revealed the Bucks are working tirelessly on completing the technicalities on a deal for a mystery target with an abundance of Football League experience.

“We are still waiting for the international clearance,” added Read.

“We chased it up yesterday and again this morning and it’s just a case of us and the fans being patient.”
