Sinton and old England pal Flowers set for Bucks v Stafford

AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton goes head-to-head with a former England colleague when Stafford Rangers come to town for a New Year’s Day derby tomorrow.

Rangers are now managed by former Premier League winner Tim Flowers, who was part of the national side the same time Sinton was involved with the Three Lions.

And the Bucks boss admitted he was looking forward to pitting his wits against a former team-mate.

He said: “It will be another really difficult game for us – they all are – and they will be looking to impress Tim and he will be looking to kick-start his season.

“From our point of view we just have to hope his season starts after Saturday.

“He was a great keeper and I played with him for England and against him a number of times and I wish him all the best.

“I am sure I will have a drink with him after the game and a good chat but until then it is all about our teams out on the pitch.

“People will say it is two ex-England players, but it’s not about me and it’s not about Tim, it’s about Telford and Stafford.

“I phoned him after he got the job and wished him well. He isn’t somebody I particularly kept in touch with but I speak to him from time to time and it’s great to see him get the chance in management, but come Saturday afternoon all the old friendships go out the window and it’s about getting three points.”

Meanwhile, Sinton added he was hopeful the future of loan winger Greg Mills would be tied up before kick off, with the winger still yet to sign an extension to his loan deal, due to expire on Tuesday.

“The ball is in Greg’s court,” said Sinton.

“We think he’s in the right place and Derby think he’s in the right place so we will just to have to see what Greg thinks.”
