Over 200 runners have entered the event, which is now in its 35th year, with the action starting with the Lilleshall five-mile on Wednesday (7pm).

The series, organised by Telford Athletic Club, boasts a new sponsor this year, D.R.E & Co Chartered Accountants. The company are celebrating their 60th anniversary and partner Richard Heath will be taking part in the Series wearing number 60.

But Martin and Ward will start as favourites as they look to maintain their recent dominance of the event, which started in 1983 and is one of the oldest race series in the country.

Martin, from host club Telford AC, will be aiming for a fourth consecutive success and has been crowned champion on a record 11 occasions.

Club-mate Ward has triumphed eight times and shared the overall spoils last year with Tipton AC's Stuart Hawkes.

The series includes six races from April to September of varying distances from five kilometres to five miles. Runners of all abilities are welcome to take part and they can pre-enter or enter on the night and either enter individual races or the whole series.

There is a special entry fee rate for those wishing to enter the series before the first race at just £30 for athletic club members and £42 for unattached runners.

On the night for the series it is £35 and £47 for unattached runners. Single race entry fees are £7 for club members or £9 unattached runners.
